The Biblioteca Salaborsa (Salaborsa Library) project in Bologna has been with us since 2000, the year in which the collaboration to design the visual identity of the library began. Inaugurated in 2001, since the very beginning it has characterized itself as an accessible cultural and multimedia space, an inviting place to meet up, full of open-shelf materials, that looks out onto the center of the city.
With the Biblioteca Salaborsa and their librarians we built a relationship of great collaboration, often conversing in heated debate about the models to follow. Incredibly rare at that time in Italy, more common in the rest of Europe.
The informative aspects of the library were divided into four deeply integrated sectors that respond to the different needs of the reader: paper form sets to orient and supply services, signage for wayfinding inside a highly structured space, a website to give information about current activities and to provide services online: registration, bibliographies, reservation requests, catalogue.
The logo is a ginkgo biloba leaf, golden yellow is the color of the institution, biblio is the font that we designed. With these few elements the Biblioteca Salaborsa speaks to the citizens.
