Inês Viegas Oliveira, VIWS 2024

Immerse yourself in children’s content.

Inês Viegas Oliveira

Inês Viegas Oliveira was born in 1995 in Tavira, Portugal. In an attempt to know everything, she took a degree in physics, but halfway through a master of mathematics she realized that she knew nothing. She therefore shifted into a post-grad program on Illustration at the UAL, which gave her some peace of mind. In 2020 and 2023 she was selected for the Illustrators Exhibition of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, while in 2022 she was one of its finalists. Inês has taken part in the European project “Every Story Matters,” which fosters inclusion through stories and books. In 2022, Planeta Tangerina published her first book emerging from this project, O Duelo, which won the National Illustration Award of Portugal in 2023. Inês operates between science and art, writing and reading, image and words, trying to break down certain boundaries. She continues to ask herself many questions, but from time to time she holds still, to write or to draw.

Immerse yourself in children’s content

Every year since 2017 the BCBF Visual Identity Workshop gives a young artist, chosen from among those selected for the Illustrators Exhibition, the opportunity to develop the visual universe for the following BCBF in co-production with Chialab. For the 2024 edition, we opted to astound visitors with the calm and peaceful strokes of young Portuguese illustrator Inês Viegas Oliveira. “Immerse yourself in children’s content” is the slogan for BCBF 2024. Inês Viegas Oliveira’s images, in fact, serve as an invitation for visitors to take the plunge and allow themselves to be transported by the currents of the vast ocean of literature and content for children and young people, an ocean that is renewed and replenished at each new edition of BCBF. This year the imaginative and colourful world of BCBF is filled with fantastic aquatic creatures that welcome visitors to the halls of the BolognaFiere Exhibition Centre.
