Bruno De Almeida, VIWS 2025
Shape, Share and Shout Children’s Content.
Bruno de Almeida (1995), born in Muzambinho, Minas Gerais, Brazil, is a researcher and visual artist based in Porto, Portugal. He holds a degree in Fashion Design from the University of Franca (São Paulo) and a Master’s in Product Design from the University of Porto, where he is currently pursuing a PhD in Design. His artistic practice explores illustration as a meeting point between art, literature, and design. His work reflects on territory, identity, and belonging, creating spaces that foster dialogue and engagement between communities and institutions.
One young artist is chosen each year from those selected for the Illustrators Exhibition to take part in the BCBF Visual Identity Workshop, and to develop the visual universe of the next edition of the Fair with the guidance of Chialab Design Studio.
Shape, Share and Shout Children’s Content
After the soothingly calm 2024 edition, we were looking for ‘strong feelings’: colour, movement, invention, and action. With this mantra in mind, we browsed through 390 illustrations. Our attention was drawn to four colourful panels featuring sinuous forms. The figures speak of gambiarra, the Brazilian art of finding ingenious solutions with scant resources. We made our choice!
Intense days for the team
The Visual Identity Workshop (VIW) lasted three days and had three objectives: to acquaint Bruno with BCBF’s requirements, identify a leading idea, and evaluate its applicability.
Colour, movement, invention, action
DAY 1. What a surprise when Bruno took up his pen and, first of all, started writing, not drawing. He explained that he puts his thoughts down on paper as it helps him see things clearly and understand what needs to be drawn.
DAY 2. Bruno’s grey pencil started drawing curved, snaking, undulating lines... Tagliatelle?
