MaturitApp is a quiz app for smartphones containing 540 Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Earth Sciences tests on all topics to be revised for the Italian high school leaving exams. It helps students to check how well-prepared they are, confirming what they know well and rapidly highlighting any weak areas for further revision.

How. We designed and developed a tool to encourage students to test themselves, making revision more fun. MaturitApp is designed for students approaching their leaving exams, but it can also help those preparing exercises for students, by identifying the most difficult topics, and thus creating exercises more suitable for revision work.

Noi non vediamo confini tra abilità e disabilità. Vogliamo che tutto sia normalmente super-abile. Così, con un altro sguardo, abbiamo ribaltato lettere, tavoli, comò, comodini, scritte…

Un altro sguardo. Figure e storie di disabilità nei libri per ragazzi  [Another view. Illustrations and stories of disabilities in children's books] is an exhibition of original plates regarding what is classified as differently abled. We do not see the boundary between ability and disability. We want everything to be normally achiev-able. Hence, for Another View, we turned out letters, tables, chests of drawers, nightstands, books…

How. Around the original plates, taken from books in the special Disability section of the BolognaRagazzi Award 2016, we built up our exhibition, hosted by the Fondazione Gualandi foundation for the deaf.

Maestra Natura è il company profile che abbiamo progettato per il Gruppo Tea, una pubblicazione cartacea e digitale dove si raccontano i valori, i servizi e le strategie ambientali della multiutility.

Maestra natura [learning from nature] is the company profile we designed for Gruppo TEA, with a printed and digital publication that talks about the values, services and environmental strategies of the multi-utility group.

How. Services regarding energy, water, waste collection and cemetery management are described and narrated through animals that have a virtuous relationship with the environment. Bees, pond skaters, fireflies and butterflies are the masters teaching us how to relate with the surrounding environment.

Il libro (digitale) di uno dei manuali d’arte più presenti sui banchi degli studenti italiani. Itinerari nell’Arte offre allo studente un’esperienza di studio ricca e completa, e all’editore un flusso produttivo funzionale alla tempistica editoriale.

The digital version of one of the most commonly-used art text books in Italian schools. Itinerari nell’Arte [Itineraries in Art] offers a rich and comprehensive experience for students, and for publishers, a production flow suitable for the timescales seen in the industry.

How. We know that the medium strongly conditions the message, and that the shift to digital is not simply a matter of scanning and pasting the pages of the printed book as they are. We put together a team off editors, graphic artists and developers who revamped the pages of the book to make them suitable for the fluid environment of electronic devices.

Become an Inventor 2016

Per Mantova Ambiente abbiamo progettato e organizzato il concorso Diventa Inventore. Quarantasei classi delle scuole primarie e secondarie di primo grado sul territorio mantovano hanno partecipato con entusiasmo, proponendo le loro idee, invenzioni e progetti, ispirandosi ai Fantastici Brevetti di Mantova Ambiente.

For Mantova Ambiente we designed and organized the competition Diventa Inventore [Become an Inventor]. Forty-six classes from local primary and secondary schools were enthusiastic participants, proposing their ideas, inventions and designs, drawing inspiration from the company's Fantastic Patents.

How. We designed an activity kit, comprising materials to cut out, instructions and suggestions. The kit was distributed to the different classes, where the pupils had a go at the difficult art of design for reuse. The five classes selected by the jury were rewarded with a selection of 100 children's books about the environment, in a big bin-shaped library on wheels.
What. Analysis, design and production of kits, communications and a library-bin. Organization and direction of the prize-giving day.

Metal as flowers - Fiori Group at Ecomondo 2016

Metalli come fiori è l’allestimento progettato per il Gruppo Fiori alla fiera Ecomondo 2016, pensato per rendere il visitatore protagonista delle infinite trasformazioni dei metalli.

Metalli come fiori [metal as flowers] is the name of the display created for Fiori Group at the 2016 edition of the Ecomondo trade fair, conceived to give visitors a sense of involvement in the infinite transformations of metals.

How. The key idea for this edition was colouring, with visitors brightening up the walls of the stand and generating large, colourful flowers based on the shapes of the scrap metal. Thus, the stand was transformed into an art gallery full of constantly-evolving shapes and colours.

Agenda Cultura: what to do in Bologna

Come avere le attività culturali di una città a portata di mano in base ai miei interessi e ai miei tempi? Bologna Agenda Cultura è la nostra risposta.

How do you get a city's cultural activities at your fingertips, according to your own interests and times? Bologna Agenda Cultura is our answer. A colourful visual field bursting with pictures, showing everything that is happening in the city, with filters to choose your personal interests. A visual field in which the identity of the city emerges spontaneously, through the events, their quality and quantity.

How. We designed a technological infrastructure, based on BEdita CMS, which searches and aggregates contents from the contents selected by the editorial staff. These are automatically gathered and catalogued to facilitate production flow and publication.
What. Design, UX, UI, development.

Agenda Cultura is growing: we have completed the development of the REST APIs for Agenda Cultura. This service provides all information on programmed events as raw data. This enables the City of Bologna to feed the data to other autonomous apps and services.


What Ariosto saw when he closed his eyes

Il Palazzo dei Diamanti di Ferrara ci ha chiesto di anticipare con sei brevissimi video la mostra Orlando Furioso 500 Anni. Ogni video apre un sipario dietro il quale il mondo di Orlando si anima: sei opere prendono vita rivelando ciò che (forse) vedeva Ariosto quando chiudeva gli occhi.

The Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara asked us to prepare six short videos, ahead of the exhibition Orlando Furioso 500 Anni [Orlando Furioso 500 years]. Each video opens a curtain behind which the great poet Orlando's world comes to life: six works which reveal what Ariosto (maybe) saw when he closed his eyes.

How. The challenge was to convey “What Ariosto saw when he closed his eyes” in a ninety-second video. The sensations aroused by tapestries, illustrated first editions, weapons, maps, sculptures, musical instruments and the masterpieces of artists of the period collected in museums around the world, from Mantegna to Raphael, Botticelli and Titian. A great Wunderkammer that comes to life on the screen.

The exhibition combines a wide variety of wonders, all associated with the character of Orlando. The idea is to reveal the huge influence that the poem has had on the imagery of so many artists over time, and to bring out the sense of discovery and adventure that it so powerfully conveys.

Back at work for BCBF 2017

Dopo una pausa di un anno abbiamo ripreso in mano il progetto e lo sviluppo dell’identità visiva della Fiera Internazionale del Libro per Ragazzi. Ce ne siamo occupati con continuità dal 2009 rispondendo alle sfide di ogni edizione con glifi, alfabeti, icone, colori… mai con figure!

After a one-year break, we have resumed work on the design and development of the visual identity of the Bologna Children's Book Fair. We have been taking care of it since 2009, rising to the challenges of each new edition with glyphs, alphabets, icons, colours… never with illustrations!

How. For the 2017 edition, for the first time in the history of the event, the visitor is accompanied by illustrations, in the form of a series of images created by Daniele Castellano. With him, we created a flexible identity that could tell some stories. His chimera enabled us to put together the fundamental soul of Bologna Children's Book Fair in a single animal, while the unique characteristics of the various fantastic creatures from which it was made gave voice to the contents of the event.

Fantastici Brevetti raccontano, con ironia e positività, le aspirazioni più profonde di Mantova Ambiente. Li abbiamo usati per ripensare l’identità e la comunicazione dell’azienda.

The Fantastic Patents use a combination of irony and positiveness to talk about the deepest aspirations of Mantova Ambiente. We took them as a starting point to reconsider the company's identity and communication.

How. The key element of the communications redesign for Mantova Ambiente lies in the 7 Fantastic Patents. Rimiserve, Raccobista, Separino, Ricicletta, Fermolì, Spazzavolo, Potabene: seven inventive creations that illustrate seven of the company's actions and values.
